Nest platforms for loons in Bush Arm and Staubert Lake. Kingbird Biological Consultants Ltd

Author: M. Kellner, H. Oort

This report only examines potential effects of stabilized, mid-elevation Arrow reservoir with the Arrow reservoir area between the Revelstoke and Hugh L. Keenleyside Dams. Significant potential upstream (Kinbasket reservoir) and downstream (transboundary reach) effects of these scenarios were determined to be out of scope for this project.

In total, we located three nests in 2016. Only one nest successfully hatched, but the ultimate success of raising young was not confirmed. Three platforms were installed in 2016 in the later part of the summer, after nests had terminated. In the Selkirk Mountains, a platform was installed in a sheltered site on Staubert Lake, just off the shoreline where the 2016 nest was located. In the Bush Arm region, a platform was installed on Aid Lake and on Treasure Lake.
