Kokanee and Rainbow Trout enumeration and outmigration at Hill Creek spawning channel, 2018. Additional spawning data collected for Thompson Creek and Incomappleux River for Rainbow Trout and Bull Trout.
Hill Creek spawning channel was very successful in 2018/2019. Kokanee egg to fry survival rebounded to normal values. Channel maintenance and scarification activities were successful despite low water levels.
The number of rainbow trout spawning in HCSC has been declining since 2014, but in 2018 there was a 20% increase in spawning redds over the previous year.
The 2018 adult Kokanee run was large, with an estimated 133,714 fish entering Hill Creek system. A total of 55,087 adult Kokanee were allowed into the channel to spawn. Fecundity improved compared to 2017, with 259 eggs per female, resulting in an estimated egg deposition of 5,592,069.
