Kokanee Spawning Assessments Norns Creek Fan 2009
Author: J.T.A. Baxter
This report summarizes the results of Kokanee redd and spawner abundance monitoring in 2009 and from previous surveys conducted in 2007 and 2008.
During the surveys we did not observe any spawning kokanee or redds in the Norns Creek fan area. Norns Creek fan was not used in 2009 for spawning by kokanee. The October 2 flow reduction from the BRX did not have an impact to kokanee spawning in the Norns Creek fan area. The BRX reduction from 13,500 cfs to 11,500 cfs (RE 200724) was ramped down every 15 minutes by 500 cfs and resulted in a 5 cm drop at Norns Creek fan. Levels at the Hugh Keenleyside Dam remained at approximately 41,000 cfs during the survey period and well into October.
